Opening week at Foundry Theatre

RCP’s Director Mark Dibben was delighted to see Foundation Theatres’ Foundry Theatre come to life when he was invited to attend the inaugural production during opening week earlier in 2025.

Pianist, singer, songwriter, actor, comedian Tim Minchin launched the venue with his sold-out show, ‘First at the Foundry’.

Mark Dibben said, “We are beyond proud to see Sydney’s newest live entertainment venue in action and working as intended. All the team’s hard work has paid off to deliver this spectacular venue.

We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Paul Rigby and the Foundation Theatres team on this unique project. From the first hand drawn sketch to curtains up and seeing the vision realised – it has been a fantastic experience.”

The Foundry Theatre is an intimate performance venue located within the Sydney Lyric Theatre. The new venue is the result of a transformation of an underutilised backstage area into a flexible, acoustically isolated space designed for live music, comedy, drama, and cabaret.

With a capacity of 360 seated or 630 standing, the venue features modular seating, advanced technical equipment, and multiple configuration styles. Its name reflects the concept of transformation and creativity, echoing the industrial heritage of a traditional foundry. The Foundry Theatre operates independently from the Sydney Lyric, allowing simultaneous productions without sound interference, thanks to meticulous acoustic engineering.
