RCP is providing independent programming services for The University of Queensland’s second student residence complex, a $285 million student accommodation project at the St Lucia campus. Scheduled to open in Semester 2 of 2027, the new complex will add 1,020 beds and support students from regional, remote, and international backgrounds.
The complex will comprise three buildings of 6 to 10 storeys, with a diverse mix of spaces for use by students including self-contained apartments. It will offer a variety of living spaces, including self-contained apartments.
Rooms will have ensuites and air conditioning, central cooking and laundry facilities and access to shared study spaces, a pool, gym and yoga facilities, game and music rooms, landscaped outdoor areas and 24/7 concierge.
Designed by Nettletontribe and supported by the Queensland Government, this project will create more affordable living options for students in the heart of St Lucia, 6km from Brisbane CBD. Stage 2 is located opposite the UQ Student Residences ‘Kev Carmody House’.

The project aims to provide suitable and value-for-money accommodation options and reduce the need for long commutes to attend classes. This development marks a significant step in UQ’s efforts to enhance the overall student experience and support its growing community.
University of Queensland Vice-Chancellor Deborah Terry AC said, “The project will complement the range of options already available through UQ-owned accommodation and the 10 affiliated residential colleges, taking the number of on-campus places to more than 4,500.
“Increasing this pool of suitable accommodation is particularly important for those commencing students who are joining us from regional and remote areas of Queensland, as well as those from overseas.
“We appreciate the confidence shown in the sector as we strive to provide the best possible student experience now and into the future.”
RCP’s services include:
- Working alongside UQ and the contractor to establish a robust baseline construction programme.
- Monthly reviews and independent tracking and reporting of the programme.
These services are designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and performance throughout the construction lifecycle.
RCP Associate & National Programming Manager, Mario said, “We’re pleased to be working closely with UQ and construction partner Built to support the delivery of this significant project. Our engagement will provide clear, independent programming advice and reporting to help keep the project aligned with its goals and minimise time risks.”
Contractor Built commenced on-site in 2024 with works continuing on the building structures.
