AIPM PMAA Construction/Engineering – NSW Winner!

22 August: In addition to our recent AIB wins (below) the Intercontinental Sydney Redevelopment has won the prestigious Australia Institute of Project Management PMAA Construction/Engineering category NSW. We are thrilled as the project was up against a very high-calibre field of competitors and projects.

Congratulations John, Mark and the team!

RCP was thrilled to be invited to the stage twice, receiving two awards at the NSW Australian Institute of Building Professional Excellence Awards 2023 held at Parliament House, Sydney on Friday 4 August 2023.

RCP’s Senior Project Manager, John Manahan, won the Project Management category for his leadership of the InterContinental Sydney redevelopment. The project also won the Sustainability award.

The $130 million InterContinental Sydney Redevelopment was a major complex upgrade to bring the hotel into compliance with the hotel group’s brand standards. RCP was engaged by Mulpha to provide project management, superintendent and programming services.

The project works comprised major services infrastructure upgrade, complete refurbishment of 509 guestrooms, upgrade of the tower façade, heritage restoration of the Treasury Building, new bar, refurbishment of the lobby, restaurants, wellness facilities, lounge, and rooftop bar. Unforeseen events included the COVID-19 pandemic and latent conditions interspersed throughout the guestrooms.

Key elements John managed included:

The outcome is a spectacular, high-quality project delivered without unplanned disruption to the operational 5-Star hotel.

“One of the greatest risks and key objectives was to minimise disruption to guests – avoiding revenue loss for the Hotel. Our team ensured the Hotel continued to provide the premium experience customers expected, working closely with Mulpha and Built. to achieve this outcome,” said John.

RCP Director, Mark Dibben commented, “The completion of this project was a result of an extensive and dedicated team effort by RCP, Mulpha, Built. and Woods Bagot. We have taken immense pride in our involvement.”

These awards follow RCP Associate Sean Carrick’s recent recognition at the AIB SA Chapter awards.

Congratulations John, Mark and the team!
